Here, have my Kouya/Yamato icon, because I am so late with posting this.

So! Yuletide reveal is in, so this is the part where I link to what I wrote and babble about it for a little while, I guess.

My Yuletide assignment was to write for Across the Universe - which is something I've never written before, so I was a little apprehensive. I ended up writing Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End, after much deliberation at what to write. The request was for a Max-centric fic, and I was immediately reminded that although Jude is the main character, Max is the center of the whole story - he's the lynchpin. I tried to get into his head and find out what it might have been like for him, coming back from Vietnam to find that everyone he had ever known or loved back home was gone except for his sister, who was changed. I've gotten some nice comments and compliments on this story, and even garnered a rec or two. Plus, the recipient adored it, so my work is done.

I also wrote a pinch hit, Improvisation, from Dragonriders of Pern. I've role-played in this fandom a lot, and I've written some OC fanfiction, so I was already pretty comfortable in the universe. Add that to the fact that the request was about the Harpers, and I always geek about being able to put my love for music down on the page, and this came along swimmingly. I've gotten so many comments on this, too. I'm just floored at the level of response this has generated.

As for who wrote mine - [info]white_aster wrote me my delightfully hotwrong story and I loved every second of it. I also had suspicions it was her before the reveal XD

I'm looking forward to next year. A lot.

Time for Yuletide recs! I'll be editing this post as I read more awesome stories.

Lucid Dreaming - Kuroshitsuji AKA Black Butler: This is what I got for Yuletide and I really couldn't be happier. Lyrical with shades of creepy, yummy and hotwrong and just what my pervy shota fancying brain wanted.

Ivy League Hospitality - Across the Universe: The Max/Jude arriving-at-Harvard missing scene that should have been in the movie. Max is insane and off-the-wall, Jude is rolling with it as usual.

I'll Find You in the Morning Sun - Angels in America: If anything could make me believe that Prior was going to fall back in love with Louis's damn fool self, this was it. Beautiful in the way the series was, meaning the hurt is right there on the surface.

Give me Love (Give me Peace on Earth) - The Bible, New Testament: If Jesus had come during the 60's instead of all those thousands of years ago, this is what it would have been like. And it's perfect.

Afterwards - The Dead Poet's Society: Todd, becoming the man he should be and surviving after Neil.

Static - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: Post-movie, Dr. Horrible seen through the eyes of one of the crazy fangirls. Billy shows through in the best places here.

Lend Song a Sweeter Grace - Dragonriders of Pern - Harper Hall: When Menolly returns to Half-Circle. Fierce and defiant in just the way I wanted from her.

Hey, Little Girl - Grindhouse (Deathproof): Kim/Zoe girlporn that I didn't realize I wanted for Christmas, but found delicious and wonderful anyway. Both Kim and Zoe's voices are spot on, and there is excessive hotness.

By the Waves We Left Behind - Madeline L'engle - Many Waters: Sandy and Dennys, trying painfully to be normal. They just can't manage to leave the unicorns out of the equation.

Brotherly Affection - The Importance of Being Ernest: I've been far too involved in this play recently, since I had to design costumes for the whole thing, but this was delightful. Jack and Algernon being ridiculous in their particular fashion, with bits of slash sprinkled on top.

Terminus - Young Wizards: It is no secret that I am a sucker for Tom/Carl. And it's nice to see them being young and messing up, and having Kit and Nita come and clean up their mess for once instead of the other way around.

My goodness, this year was stressful!

Last year wasn't so bad, because I got my story in ridiculously early. But this year, I found myself futzing around with finals and college until suddenly, I have less than four days until the deadline.

To which I suddenly said: ASDLKEJRISF HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN, SELF?

And then a pinch hit came up over my e-mail that I just had to take, and so in a fit of writerly writing, I ended up finishing my story and my pinch hit in one night and uploading them within hours of each other.

My eventual publishers are going to hate me.

Oh, hi Yuletide santa! I guess it's that time of year again - the time of year where we all rip out our hair trying to get this done. Don't worry! Last year was the first year I participated, and I was pleasantly surprised - so anything that comes out of Yuletide generally makes me happy.

And, Santa, the good thing about my fandoms for this round is that they're all fairly short! If you don't feel like writing for the fandom that you offered, any of these others are easy to get into.

About my requests... )

I finished my Yuletide story today! Unfortunately, I can't see a word count because my copy of Microsoft Word expired and I can't find a copy for cheaper than $100 or something, and I'm broke. D:

Overall, I'm very pleased with it, although I'm paranoid it's going to be more angsty than what my recipient wanted. I attempted to stay very true to the prompt, these boys just needed something rather drastic to nudge them into bed with each other.

It's a huge weight off my back. Now I can get on with writing that hawt Yamato/Kouya lesbian sexxin' I've been planning.

Gah.

Am I writing in the fandom I offered? Hmmmmmmmm, NO. I had never even heard of this fandom before I picked up this source material from my recipient, and now I'm writing for that fandom.

...Because the fandom I was assigned makes me feel inadequate. I can't write for that fandom >.>

So now I'm about 1300 words in, so I'm at least past my benchmark 1k that Yuletide requires. I've gotten past the plotty bits, I have them both in the shower -

- and then they just stop. ASdflkjetoilkf BOYS! You've been eyeing each other through the whole manga! You know you want to bang - so just bang for chrissakes!

I think I'm the only one on my f-list that is desperately happy that he original assignment was a snafu. I got four prompts.... none of which I signed up for. Needless to say, since I'm a first time Yuletide participant, I was flailing and making stunned noises and wanting to know what I had done wrong and oh hell, now I was going to have to turn in a badly written story -

But then the second e-mail came through and I just about fainted out of my chair in relief. Whew, that was close.

I guess it's time for one of these then -
